It was great to see so many of you at conferences and at the Valentine's Day Dance. The children enjoyed exchanging valentines on Tuesday. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Hawthorne for the treat bags. We have completed Unit 3 in Literacy and Unit 6 in Math. This week we will have our test on Earth Science.We begin fractions in Math and Unit 4 in Literacy. The students have new math journals and reading books for the rest of the year. Interim Reports go home on Friday the 24th. Please continue to check the Weekly Folders for Office Information and Graded papers.

Happy New Year! I hope you had a restful break. We are back in Reading Street, so look for reading and spelling tests to be coming home. Now that the Rewards Program is finished, Reading Skills Groups have begun this week. Fourth Graders are grouped according to their needs and move between the 5 classes for 30 minutes right before lunch. We have begun Unit 5 in Math on rounding, estimating, and multiplication. I will teach multiplication the traditional way. The Unit Test date is Thursday, January 19. We are studying chemical & physical changes in Science this week. Our Science Test on Matter will be on Wednesday, January 18. The grading period (and the semester) will be ending soon on January 23. Report Cards will go home on the 27. Conferences will follow on January 31 & February 7. Be sure to let me know if you would like a conference by returning the paper to school when it comes home.

This week we continue with Reading Street. Our selection is about the President's job. On Friday we will have spelling and reading tests. Math continues with Decimals. Students have to compare & order, add & subtract, and estimate decimals. We begin Physical Science this week. For the next month we will learn about matter, solids, liquids, and gases. There is not a text book for this. The students will have handouts, trade books, and their science notebook to use. Please look for the Wednesday Folder each week with graded papers and Office information. Mrs. Hawthorne will be sending home requests for the Holiday Party soon. Have a great week!

Happy Thanksgiving

A Happy Blessed Thanksgiving to all! Enjoy your family celebrations today. It was great to meet and talk with so many parents at conferences. Next week we are back in Reading Street so there will be Spelling and Reading Tests on Friday. In Math we are beginning Unit 4 on Decimals, Money, and Measurement. Unit 4 will be tested before the Holiday Break. We will have a Fossils Science Test on Thursday.

Week of Nov.14-18

We will be back in Reading Street this week. Homework will follow the usual schedule. Reading and Spelling Tests will be given on Friday. We will have our Plant Test in Science on Tuesday. Report Cards and Conference Times were sent home on Thursday. If you are not scheduled you can still do so. Conferences are on Tuesday, November 15 and Monday ,November 21. Unit 1 Math Test will be given next week (before Thanksgiving) on Tuesday, November 22. Thanksgiving week is short so Reading Street will not be done. The children will be studying the Ancient Indians of Ohio and will be completing a group project on the Mound Builders.

A Short Week

This week we are reading plant books in book groups, completing an Ohio Map Project, completing our Halloween stories, and starting Unit 1 in Math on geometry. We will do some Veteran activities on Thursday as well. We will not have a reading or spelling test. Parent Request Conference Forms went home last Friday and Report cards will go home on Thursday. I have been asked to post a homework schedule so here it is:

Monday- Literacy: Family Times WS for overview of week. Small Group Book to read and Fresh Reads WS(due Thurs.) Spelling 2 WS(due Fri.). Math: Study Link WS. *Science and Social Studies are completed in class daily and are not homework.

Tuesday- Literacy: 2 DVD WS (Target Skill & Conventions), 2 Small Group WS(due Thurs.). Math: Study Link WS.

Wednesday- Literacy: 2DVD WS(Target Skill & Conventions). Math: Study Link WS.

Thursday-Literacy: DVD-Review Target Skill WS & study vocabulary for weekly test. Spelling: Study for weekly test. Math: Study Link WS.

Friday- No Homework.

Your child has a weekly gold sheet to write assignments on daily. It is in the daily folder. On Wednesdays I send home a folder of graded papers and information from the office. Please send it back signed so I know you have seen it. Thank you.

I'm Back!

Hello Families,

I am so glad to be back at school and have spent the past two weeks getting to know your children. I have spent time reviewing procedures and my expectations with them. I ate lunch with small groups to see how things were going. Most of the class is doing their very best every day. I am pleased with that. Report Cards will be coming home soon and Conferences will follow. I know several of you wanted a conference at Interims but I was not back then so I will be sure to schedule one with you in November.

We have started Unit 2 in Reading Street. In Science we are continuning our study of plants through November. Math Test Unit 2a is tomorrow and next week will start Unit 1. Map Skills will be completed with an Ohio Map Project this week and then it is on to some Ohio History. We are still using Rewards for Skills Group until Winter Break. It is a useful Phonics Program that helps children decode longer words in their reading. This in turn improves their comprehension.
